While commenting on an article titled 'Nehru desperately tried to stop Rajendra Prasad from
becoming 1st President, says new book' ( source.. ) a reader commented,"I can understand Nehru's reluctance in the matter. Rajendra Prasad was a deeply conservative man, very different from the modern, wesernised Nehru. The Prime Minister knew that Prasad as President would come in the way of major changes he planned to unleash to transform Indian society - abolition of untouchability, abolition of zamindari, Hindu Marriag Bill etc. Nehru's fears were justified only in respect of the Hindu Marriage Bill over which Prasad had deep reservations. To Nehru's credit, he could work with people who had a different perception.''
But I disagree. Nehru was rootless not westernized. One justification for advancing Nehru as PM while ignoring democratic choice of India i.e. Sardar Patel is said to be his mastery of foreign affairs but experience tells otherwise . The sores of POK dispute, Chinese occupation of Tibet , 1962 Blunder are all his legacy . These have been & shall continue to be major challenges for Indian HM, MEA, MOD & economic affairs besides threatening water security even in 21st centuary ! Rajender Prasad , Sardar Patel & even MS Golwalkar never concurred ( rather vastly differed ) with him on such issues .
Yh it's true however colonial conspiracy that played decisive role in this drama did factor hurting Hindu Interests for which Nehru was convenient pawn . Foundations of 'new' nation were being laid & constitution drafted. Elimination of Subhash Chander Bose, Mahatma Gandhi & Shyama Prsad Mukherjee from national scene in seemingly unrelated but all unnatural & controversial circumstances at this critcal point are other parts of the same broader plot. Godse etc are small flies exploited for ultimate objective of crushing Hindus & nationalist interests of which RSS was the most prominent symbol . The lesson for for Indians is that the leadership has a major bearing on not only our national well being but also that of future generations for a long time to come.
